Paid Teaching Program

We have four programs at TEFL369; the most popular of which is our Paid Teaching Program.

In this program, you earn while you teach.  Your salary is based upon the city in which you teach, your experience, and your qualifications. We have paid teaching placements at Kindergarten, Primary School, Middle School and High School Levels as well as Universities and English Language Training Schools.

The Chinese school year is divided into two semesters.  We ask that you complete at least one semester and you can, of course, teach a full year. Anticipate differences between Chinese working conditions and those found in Western schools.  We ask you to be flexible in your working hours and in your teaching expectations.

Class sizes are very large compared to Western schools. There can be up to 50 students in each class. You will need to be patient, flexible and able to maintain your students interest with games and fun activities as well as the material in your classes. Learning takes place when students stay interested in what you are presenting.

While there is no one teaching methodology that is best for all Chinese students we ask you to find one that is very comfortable for you and at the same time allows you to construct better and better lessons.  Don¡¯t be afraid to ask for advice. Ask your assistant and your students what they enjoyed most about your lesson and what they did not like or did not understand. This is a great way to learn and improve your teaching abilities.

Below are compulsory requirements of a Paid Teaching Placement

1)  Be prepared, with the aid of your assistant, to develop your own lesson plans.

2)  Arrive on time for each class.  Be sure you are ready when the students arrive.

3)  Mark all assignments your students submit.

4)  Be a mentor or role model for your students

5)  Be prepared to take part in weekly / fortnightly staff meetings

6)  Prepare exam papers.

Note:  numbers 1, 3 and 6 may not be necessary in your assigned school.

Once you have finished your classes for the day, your time is your own.  Be sure to get all you can from your China experience by enjoying the local community.  Use their parks; visit their museums and landmarks.  Shop in local stores; dine in local restaurants.  Get to know your neighbors.  Be a part of what you are experiencing; not just a spectator.
